Headset won't turn on

Usually a power issue. Work through charging, cables, and a hard power cycle before contacting support.

For: Instructors and IT staff troubleshooting a headset that won't turn on

A headset that won't turn on is almost always a power issue, not a broken device. The steps differ by headset — Quest 2, Quest 3S, or Pico Neo 3 — so use the section that matches your device.

Quest 2 and Quest 3S: checking power and the status LED

  1. Press and hold the power button on the right side of the headset until the screen lights up.
  2. If nothing happens, check the status LED near the power button.

The LED tells you what to do next: green means the headset is fully charged, orange means it's partially charged, and red — solid or blinking — means it needs to charge before it will turn on.

Charging a Quest 2 or Quest 3S

  1. Plug the charging cable into the headset's charging port.
  2. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
  3. Leave the headset connected until the LED turns green, then press and hold the power button again.

Use only the included cable and adapter, or a compatible replacement, to charge the headset. A different cable or adapter can fail to charge it even when it looks connected correctly.

Pico Neo 3: turning the headset on and off

On the side of the headset, hold the power button for three seconds until the headset turns on. If it doesn't turn on, connect it to its charging cable and adapter and check for a charging indicator before trying again.

To power a Pico Neo 3 off, hold the power button for two to three seconds and watch for the Pico logo. The headset powers off after the logo appears.

When to contact support

Contact support if the headset still won't turn on after it's had time to charge fully. It may need service or replacement. See Replacement headsets for what happens next, and the Quest 3S hardware guide or Pico Neo 3 headset guide for setup basics on the replacement unit.
