Pico Neo 3 Headset Guide

Set up and maintain the Pico Neo 3: unboxing, controllers, guardian setup, cleaning, and specs.

Unpacking the Headset

When your Pico Neo 3 arrives, take a few minutes to see what's in the box and get familiar with your hardware. This video walks you through everything included with the headset.

Quick Start & Setup

This section gets you from a powered-off headset to your first simulation. The walkthrough video covers the full setup, and the steps below summarize each stage.

Setup steps

  1. On the side of the headset, hold the power button for three seconds until the headset turns on.
  2. On each controller, attach the wrist strap to your wrist, then put on the headset.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to set your play area, and select Custom Boundary Mode. (See Setting Up the Guardian Space for the full boundary walkthrough.)
  4. On the navigation panel, select Wi-Fi Settings, choose your network, and enter your password.
  5. From the home screen, open the Transfr app to start training.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. On the navigation panel, select Wi-Fi Settings.
  2. Wait while the headset searches for networks in range.
  3. In the network list, select your network and enter the password.
  4. Select Connect. The headset shows a connected status once it joins the network.

Turning off the Transfr app

  1. In the app, have the learner select Log Out first.
  2. On either controller, press the Pico button.
  3. Point the controller at Quit and Go Home, then press the trigger button.

Turning off the headset

  1. While wearing the headset, hold the power button for two to three seconds.
  2. Watch for the Pico logo. The headset powers off after the logo appears.

Headset Components & Power

Knowing the headset's buttons and ports makes setup and troubleshooting easier. This video gives you a tour of the Pico Neo 3's physical components.

The headset has these physical buttons:

  • Power / App (Back) — turns the headset on and off and steps back in menus.
  • Confirm — confirms a selection.
  • Home — returns to the home screen.
  • Volume Up and Volume Down — adjust audio.

The Pico Neo 3 supports three physical lens (IPD) positions: 58 mm, 63.5 mm, and 69 mm.

Charging the Headset

Keep the headset charged so it's ready before each session. This video shows you where the power port is and what battery life to expect.

  1. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the charging port on the headset.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet. The headset begins charging.

A full charge on the 5300 mAh battery lasts roughly 2.5 to 3 hours of use.

Changing the Batteries

The Pico Neo 3 controllers run on replaceable AA batteries. The video below shows how to change the controller batteries.

Each controller uses two AA batteries, which last up to 100 hours of use.

Using the controllers

This video shows how to interact with objects in the VR environment. The steps below cover the core inputs.

  1. On each controller, attach the wrist strap to your wrist to protect the controller from drops.
  2. On each controller, press the Pico button to wake the controller.
  3. With your index finger, pull the trigger button to make selections, such as entering a password or selecting Start.
  4. With your middle finger, hold the grip button on the inside of the controller to pick up and hold an object. The object stays in your hand as long as you hold the grip button.
  5. On either controller, tap the Pico button to exit the application.

Setting Up the Guardian Space

The guardian boundary marks a safe play area so learners don't bump into objects during a session. This video shows you how to set one up.

  1. Power on the headset. At the boundary prompt, select Custom.
  2. Look down at the floor. When the grid lines up with your floor, select Next. If the grid sits above your floor, reach down with a controller, touch the floor, and pull the trigger button to reset the floor level.
  3. Point the controller's ray of light at the floor, hold the trigger button, and draw a boundary as large as possible that's clear of objects.
  4. Select Next when the boundary is drawn.
  5. Confirm the play area is clear, then select Finish. You'll enter the VR environment once the boundary is saved.

Resetting the Guardian Boundary

Redraw the guardian boundary when the play area shifts or the headset reports a tracking error.

When to reset the boundary

  • You see a boundary error or a "tracking lost" message.
  • You've rearranged the room or moved the headset to a new space.
  • The play area no longer matches your physical surroundings.

Before you begin

  • Make sure you have at least 4 to 6 ft diameter floor space per learner, using 6 ft where the room permits.

Steps

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Guardian.
  3. Select Clear to remove the current boundary.
  4. Redraw the floor level.
  5. Redraw the boundary around your play area.
  6. Confirm to save.

Troubleshooting

If the redraw won't save:

  • Improve the lighting in the room.
  • Remove reflective surfaces, such as mirrors or windows, from the play area.

If the boundary still won't save after trying these steps, contact Transfr Technical Support.

Cleaning the Headset

Regular cleaning keeps shared headsets safe and the lenses clear. This video covers cleaning best practices for the Pico Neo 3.

Cleaning the lenses

  1. Use a dry optical microfiber cloth on the headset lenses and sensor lenses. Don't use liquid or chemical cleaners on the lenses.
  2. Starting at the center of the lens, wipe in a circular motion moving outward.

Cleaning the headset and controllers

  1. Use non-abrasive disinfectant or alcohol wipes on the headset surfaces and buttons, avoiding the lenses.
  2. Wipe the controllers with non-abrasive disinfectant or alcohol wipes.

Storage

  • Keep headsets out of direct sunlight to protect the optics and display.
  • Don't leave headsets in extremely hot locations, such as a hot car, or near heat sources like a furnace or stove.
  • Keep headsets away from pets and unsupervised small children.
  • Store headsets securely locked up between uses.
